The house of Karl Lagerfeld has paid homage to its eponymous founder following his death in February of this year. The fashion brand has honoured the designer with a global project involving some of the industry's biggest names, who all had close professional and personal relationships with him.

'The White Shirt Project' celebrates the designer's legacy through one of his most beloved styles, the white shirt. Carine Roitfeld, who headed up the project, explained that the inspiration for the collection came from something Lagerfeld once said: "If you ask me what I’d most like to have invented in fashion, I’d say the white shirt. For me, the white shirt is the basis of everything. Everything else comes after."

Due to the number seven being Lagerfeld's favourite, this has been incorporated into the project – seven of the final designs will be replicated 77 times each and sold for charity at a price of €777 (about £700) per piece. All proceeds of the shirt sales will be donated to the French charity Sauver la Vie, which funds medical research at the Paris Descartes University. There will also be an exhibition of the final shirts held during Paris Fashion Week this month.

The shirts will be available to buy from 26 September on FarFetch and Karl.com. Browse the full collection below.
