A long-time staple of menswear and dapper school uniforms, vests or waistcoats have moved into trendier territory. This season, the vest was refreshed in a myriad of ways that celebrated its versatility. At CELINE, the free-spirited vibe of a Victorian-styled blouse and maxi skirt was grounded with an ornate, embroidered velvet vest topped with somber kohled eyes. At Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri sent her girls down the runway in a denim set complete with a necktie and sleek accessories, while a padded version—teamed with a leather duffel bag and boots—garnered looks of approval at Louis Vuitton. Burberry stuck to the classics and went with a tailored three-piece suit, sans shirt, completely covered in the brand’s signature checks. And in true Hermès fashion, a thigh-sweeping leather vest was presented as a new wardrobe staple, layered over a black turtleneck and worn with leather trousers and monk-strap shoes for a look that was as fashion-forward as it was timeless.
