Introducing The Kit-Flop: This Summer's Favourite Sandal

Flip-flops have had something of a renaissance of late. After falling out of favour with the fashion set a few years ago, they were suddenly spotted on the spring/summer 2018 catwalks of Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Fenty Puma – before finding themselves on the feet of the world's most stylish women last summer, teamed with slip skirts and feminine dresses.

And now, it seems that the divisive style will be in for another year, although this time, they have had a grown-up makeover; enter kit-flops, a hybrid of the kitten heel and the humble flip-flop.

The style first saw prominence, as so many trends these days seem to, through the likes of Kim Kardashian West and Kendall Jenner, who both wore the trend - the former in her husband's nude Yeezy style and Jenner in a pair of Simon Miller 'thongs'.

Since then, Instagram has been awash with stylish women trying out the style – and, slowly but surely, convincing us to get on board. Feeling tempted? Here's how to style them.

Embrace colour

If you want to turn heads with your footwear, then channel shades of neon and invest in a highlighter heel. A perfect match with neutral tones (beige is back, you know), the vibrancy of the shoe will give your outfit a colourful boost.

If you're after a more casual look, but still want to make a statement, pastel kit-flops look just as stylish. Seek out pairs with a sculptural heel for added drama.

Keep it classic

Want to be a little more subtle with your choice of sandal? Go classic with a black pair.

These will be great for dressing up a pair of casual jeans and a crisp white T-shirt or will breathe life into a summer dress for that next wedding.

Chunky is the new strappy

As we've seen with barely-there heels and the square-toe update, thinner straps are in. But, when it comes to the kit-flop, a thicker strap works just as well. 'It' brand Staud offers a chic croc print that comes in cream, brown and black.
