Jonathan Anderson returned to the runway for spring/summer 2022 with a LOEWE collection that challenges the idea of form and the female body. Throughout the collection, he played with the idea of things being slightly off-kilter. Clingy column dresses were inserted with metal wiring, creating strange new shapes; golden breastplates were embedded on trench coats; denim jackets were worn back to front; and tracksuits were puffed up with couture volumes. But Anderson’s most brilliant flourish took a page out of the Surrealism playbook. On their feet, the models wore what looked like classic black slingbacks and sandals. That is, until they turned around, revealing heels fashioned out of a delightfully random assortment of objects—a red rose; a bottle of nail polish; a bar of soap; a birthday candle and a cracked egg— and proving that you can make both an entrance and a stylish exit.
