Last season, fashion brands made headlines for shock and awe campaign casting—Joan Didion for Céline, Cher for Marc Jacobs, Kim and Kanye for Balmain and so on. This season, Louis Vuitton took that notion one step further and enlisted a video game character for its Spring 2016 campaign.

Nicolas Ghesquière opted for a relatively unknown star (at least in terms of the fashion world) for Vuitton's Series 4 campaign, Lightning from the Final Fantasy game series. The creative director unveiled the campaign starring the pink-haired character on Instagram, which was created in collaboration with video game artist Tetsuya Normura:

The theme for spring's campaign is the merging of reality and fantasy, which resulted in a sci-fi, futuristic look starring Lightning with the season's coveted patchwork Go-14 bag on her arm. While the industry has been merging more and more with the tech world over the past few seasons, this marks the first campaign to cast a video game character in lieu of a real human.
