MTV and the CFDA have announced that they’ll be honouring fashion designer Marc Jacobs with a brand new fashion accolade. Jacobs will be the first recipient of the MTV Fashion Trailblazer Award, in recognition for his cultural impact through his work.

He will be honoured during the upcoming VMAs (Video Music Awards), as music has always been an integral part of his work.

With a career that spans an impressive three decades, Jacobs has dressed some of the most famous music artists in the world - from Cardi B to Lady Gaga - and he previously cast Missy Elliot in his autumn/winter 2016 campaign.

Jacobs has nodded to the music industry throughout his career, such as featuring the vintage MTV logo of the signature block "M" in his spring resort 2017 collection.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and MTV announced in a statement that Jacobs will be awarded for his "indelible impact within the world of music-artist fashion".

It's been a busy year so far for the designer, who recently announced his new venture, 'The Marc Jacobs' - a more affordable version of his brand - four years after the closure of Marc by Marc Jacobs.

The MTV VMAs will air on 26 August.
