GOT7's Mark Tuan, NCT's Ten And SEVENTEEN's Jeonghan At Saint Laurent Men's Summer '24
A testament to the brand's classy roots.
Structural precision reigns supreme in the Saint Laurent Men's Summer 2024 collection, presented by creative director Anthony Vaccarello in Berlin. Never mind the choice of venue, the imposing Neue Nationalgalerie, known for its emphasis on cubism and meticulous Bauhaus style. This was a collection which showed off what Saint Laurent does best - androgynous dressing which makes you forget why such a term ever existed in the first place.
Themed "Each Man Kills The Thing He Loves", the collection presented an interplay between masculine and feminine elements to capture the versatility of the French luxury brand. With sharp silhouettes, a variety of prints and couture fabrics, this collection was all about looking forward while keeping an eye on the past.

Indeed, the exaggerated shoulders and narrow waists seemed to pay homage to Lydia Tár, the female conductor played by actress Cate Blanchett who (coincidentally) leads the Berlin Philharmonic in the 2022 psychological drama, Tár. A study in character and conversation, the film explores surrealism, the subversion of gender roles and their expectations, along with the intertwining of past and present. High-waisted flute pants, sharply-tailored jackets and bow ties present across the collection reflect the uniform of the Lydia Tar type; body-skimming satin tank tops hidden underneath the quintessential Saint Laurent tuxedo cut with geometric precision hint at the core ethos behind the collection and really, the brand as a whole. Sometimes simplicity is merely a code hiding layers of complexity underneath, and what you see isn't always what you get.
