Milan Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Max Mara Spring 2017
Animal-inspired knitwear and sporty coats
By Harper’s Bazaar Singapore Team - published
For spring, Max Mara relaxed some of its dressy day codes and brought in some tropicalia, inspired by the modernist architecture and designs of Lina Bo Bardi, an Italian who lived in Brazil.
To wit, sporty jackets, leggings and pencil skirts walked out in either bright, jungle green palm frond prints or cool, minimalist all-black. In both cases, the precision tailoring was in focus.
Shaggy insets, tightly cinched waists and visors gave the looks a safari gone wild vibe.
A series of tonal jumpsuits and zippered dresses took their cue from the bright modernist color blocking seen in some of Bardi's work. And lean queens will appreciate the tapered legs and clean lines of the shapes.
But for a finale, Max Mara's team returned to the animalia motif, sending models out in sweaters with intarsia animals of all kinds, topping animal-print or shaggy green pencil skirts.
