While their first joint women’s collection was an exercise in redefining and reiterating the Prada language, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’s sophomore effort built on that language to tell a brand-new chapter—and the story that the duo zeroed in on was one of tactility. For fall/winter 2021, Prada and Simons wanted to explore and expound on the feeling of fashion. The result is a collection of pieces that either cling to the body or swaddle it gently, rendered in a rich panoply of textures ranging from the soft and plush to the glitzy and hardy; there are faux-fur wraps and sequinned stoles, nylon coats and silk dresses, knit bodysuits and leather gloves. The defining accessory of the collection is a pair of thigh-high boots; its usual sexy connotations brilliantly subverted by the boxy, blocky platform soles and the knit jacquard patterned all over in the retro wallpaper motifs that earned Prada her moniker as Queen of the Ugly-chic—emphasis on chic.
The boots are $2,700 and are available at Prada, #02-15 IONOrchard (tel: 6509 3113).
