Fashion is what each generation makes of it. And in today's context, that means luxury and streetwear aesthetics coalescing harmoniously. Here to make a case for it is MCM with their new capsule collection in collaboration with A BATHING APE (BAPE).

The collection is a celebration of opulence, street culture, music and pop culture in the form of contemporary, statement making fashion. Comprising a range of leather goods, apparel, and accessories, the collection is an unapologetic fusion of each brand's distinctive styles—BAPE’s iconic shark and camo motif juxtaposed with MCM’s signature Visetos (logo).

The '80s aesthetic plays a starring role in the collection, especially in the Track Jacket, $690, and matching Track Pants, $530, which speak to the bold attitude and overtly rich design language of the era. The Milo Sweater, $560, which proudly boasts the collaboration's logo—a camouflage BAPE ape head furnished in MCM's classic cognac and brown colours—is a prime example. The superfly style can also be found in the collection's offering of graphic slides, t-shirts and keychains.

BAPE's artful yet playful style underlines the accessories range which features the Japanese streetwear brand's distinctive shark motif embellishing MCM's cognac Visetos. Out of the collection, the Backpack and Weekender Bag are perhaps the most cop-worthy pieces. The Backpack in BAPE Camo Khaki, $1,420, is outfitted in gold metal hardware, black webbed straps, black leather piping, and is finished with a polished gold metal collaboration plaque. The Weekender Bag, $2,080, has also received an update with shark graphics, bold logos and other animalistic patches.

The spirit of the collection amalgamates in the campaign visuals shot by up-and-coming Berlin-based German photographer Vitalis Gelwich, as well as in the video by award-winning director and music supervisor Maya Margolina, a New York-based, Uzbekistan-born creative behind the video departments of multiple media companies such as Glossier. The video, shot in Brooklyn, New York, succinctly highlights the collection's youthful, irreverent and contemporary design narrative. In other words, it's a celebration of self-expression, cultural fluidity through movement, a sense of exploration and above all, the experience. Watch the video below.
