New York Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Proenza Schouler Spring 2017

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's message for spring was, "Let your chic flag fly." Celebrating the fact that women are individuals, the Proenza Schouler duo sent out models' with their own hair styles (maybe polished a little) and ultra natural makeup. And the clothes were just as much unlike anything else seen so far this season.

While there were riffs of past Proenza motifs—the repeating patterns, intricate tailoring and leathers and knits turned into ultra cool, ultra difficult to duplicate pieces—the packaging was different. Like cross-front dresses, sweaters and shirts with surrealist appliques...a hand stitched above the chest, an antiquities marble statue splayed across another.

Where in the past, the bags were the 2nd surprise act that gets people excited to shop, for spring, the shoes took center stage. They were chunky, platform sandals in animal, prints and colour blocks. (Ok, the bags were pretty awesome, too.)

The silhouettes were deceptively simple, which allowed the colours, patterns and construction to shine. A white tunic, layered over a ribbed long-sleeve and a patterned knit pencil skirt. Super easy. Super chic.

Prints and patterns were wild, from the graphic coloured fur coats cinched with sweatshirts to abstract spots, stripes and geometrics that were played against each other. And McCollough and Lazaro even showed a little cheeky humour. Or rather, cleavage humour—their finale was a turtleneck with a large heart over the chest, tucked into a striped sequined skirt.
