New York Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Victoria Beckham FW17

"These are clothes for reality, and a real woman's life."

Victoria Beckham isn't your average everyday Mary. A former megawatt pop icon, married to a megawatt soccer legend, mother to a burgeoning megawatt social media star — and there are still three more little stars in training at home. And yet for all that, her collection taps into that everyday concept (albeit a very luxurious one), one that's way more approachable than a red carpet one. Fall's collection directly addressed this grounded woman, her notes saying, "These are clothes for reality, and a real woman's life."

But through Beckham's tony British filter, this meant bringing in men's wear elements and a ton of luxe materials. The key was how she translated it: chiffon and georgette dresses and skirts for instance, in ruffled frills were tempered with terrific knit sweaters and scrunched leather boots.

She mixed in plaids, navy and oxblood in sturdy wool men's blazers and office skirts, all tweaked in proportion to look more feminine. Lengths were longer and looser, sleeves molded, skirts fluid and softened.

The accessories were sensational — boxy vanity case-like bags done in cognac, wine and rich brown leather, meant to be worn cross body or traditionally.

The collection didn't shatter molds. But it did something more important: It gave working women (or even non-working women) options. That's all we want. As Beckham said, "The attitude is of freedom, of confidence, of power."
