A Look At Fashion’s Grand Slam At The 2021 Australian Open

Serena Williams is not only one of the greatest tennis players of our time, she’s also known for serving up some serious style. And at the 2021 Australian Open, she didn’t disappoint. For her first match, Williams wore an asymmetrical unitard from Nike in tribute to the late athlete Florence Griffith-Joyner and won both the tournament and best dressed competition.

Next up is Naomi Osaka, who was recently named brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton and TAG Heuer. The fashion darling wore a head-to-toe Nike ensemble consisting of a bright orange skirt over a charcoal and black catsuit, and topped it off with a necklace and a pair of earrings from Louis Vuitton's Volt collection. It was in this outfit that she beat Williams and made it to the finals.

Osaka’s on-court outfit straddled the fine line between fashion and function, and we must admit that we prefer her off-duty style a lot more.

Another athlete who embraces fashion as much as sports is Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens. On the 2021 Australian Open court, Mertens wore a matching pink tennis skirt and singlet combination from Lotto Sport. When she’s not training or participating in tournaments, Mertens loves dressing up in floral frocks and dainty lace dresses.

Monochrome looks seem to be in this sporting season. American professional tennis player Jennifer Brady was seen wearing a head-to-toe outfit baby blue outfit, courtesy of ASICS.

Another style seen on the Australian Open court was colour-blocking with solid and fluorescent hues, as shown her by Jessie Pegula as she reached her maiden Grand Slam quarter final.

Taiwanese tennis player Su-wei Hsieh on the other hand, went with a more muted colour palette sporting a white skirt and navy blue New Balance top.

A newcomer to this list is Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Melbourne-based tennis player sported an understated look comprising a black T-shirt and shorts paired with white Nike trainers. Kokkinakis later revealed in an interview that the outfit which put him on our best-dressed list was from Kmart, proving that good style doesn’t always have to be expensive.

A notable mention goes out to Serbian pro Novak Djokovic, who wore a white polo T-shirt with forest green webbing around the collar paired with shorts in the same hue as well as matching sneakers.

Lastly, we have Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov who sported a prototypical court outfit from Nike, with a side of abs.
