Prada Has Reinterpreted Billie Holiday's Most Iconic Outfits For New Film

The fashion house dipped into its archive to recreate some of the singer's best looks.

If you are looking for a contender for most stylish film of the year, new biopic The United States Vs Billie Holiday might just be it. The movie, from Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels, tells the story of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics launching an undercover sting operation against jazz singer Billie Holiday, and is set for release on Hulu this spring.

The film stars Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Andra Day as Holiday, who recreates some of the star's most iconic on-stage performances, dressed mostly top-to-toe in Prada. The fashion house turned to its archives for the occasion to reinterpret Holiday’s most memorable outfits with a contemporary eye, while honouring the historical time period of the 1940s and 1950s – and the result is nothing short of breathtaking.

"Billie Holiday was a timeless cultural force, imprinting her soulful voice and style on the course of American music and art," reads a press release from Prada about the brand's work on the film. "Holiday’s style, like her voice, was melodic and powerful, mirroring her classically iconic and beautifully complex influence on our cultural landscape."
