Exclusive: Simone Rocha Is The Latest Designer To Collaborate With H&M

H &M has had a long streak of success with its designer collaborations. Think Karl Lagerfeld, Maison Martin Margiela, Comme des Garçons, Giambattista Valli, Isabel Marant and Versace, to name just a few. And to say that we’ve all been eagerly anticipating the Swedish retailer’s announcement about this upcoming partnership is an understatement.
Luckily, the wait is finally over. The latest name working together with H&M is none other than London-based Irish designer Simone Rocha, best known for her signature aesthetic of subversive femininity.

Simone Rocha Collaborates With H&M In An Unprecedented Move
The Simone Rocha x H&M collection will, of course, include Rocha’s trademark womenswear alongside her menswear debut and childrenswear. Expect a full wardrobe for the family, comprising tulle dresses, day dresses, knits, shirting, outerwear, T-shirts, accessories, Rocha’s highly covetable sparkling jewellery and pearl-embellished footwear.

Simone Rocha Collaborates With H&M In An Unprecedented Move
Just like her own collections, Rocha’s designs for her collaboration with H&M are deeply personal. The lineup she has dreamed up celebrates her inter-ethnic heritage, and is woven with inspiration taken from the traditions and craftsmanship of Hong Kong, as well as masterpieces from art history.
Historical inspirations have been a hallmark of Rocha’s designs, so it should come as no surprise that references to Tudor courtiers are present in this collection. There are also tartan, beading, florals, pinks, reds and bespoke fabrics developed exclusively for this collaboration. When forming this collection, Rocha dug deep into her archives and reimagined some of her favourite designs in new proportions.

“I am so thrilled to be working with H&M on this very special collection. It truly is a celebration of the signatures of my brand, and the influences that have shaped me. As a designer, and as a customer, I’ve been such a fan of the H&M collaboration concept. Margiela, Alber Elbaz, Comme des Garçons– it’s such an amazing list of alumni to be a part of.” said Rocha in an official statement.
Lensed by Ben Toms and styled by Rocha's long-term collaborator Robbie Spencer, the collection look book nods to the layered nature of the Irish designer's shows, and features reworked signatures in pieces that can be easily mixed and matched.
