New York Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Delpozo Spring 2017

Delpozo SS17 was a study in bright, bold colours and sculptural shapes inspired by flowers

Josep Font has the soul of a couturier and the references of an art history professor, but before we get into the works of "Spain's master of light, Joaquín Sorolla along with the luminous refractions of Korean-American Soo Sunny Park's installation art," let's talk Spring. Font looked to that moment when we transition out of winter, just before the first flowers bloom, for sweeping floral prints in joyful but subdued hues. Getting back to Sorolla though, Font named this shade "Sorolla blue" in the painter's honour (image 1).

This collection felt more wearable than ever. Font has a way with intricate, special, dramatic pieces that feel like you can hang them on a wall as easily as attend a socialite wedding in them—but here we see skirt suiting with "calla lily" sleeves that the woman who seeks fashion with a dash of the artful can wear in daily life.

Apple greens, tangerines, sorbet yellow and fuchsia all work together in a bold, sculptural plaid skirt, inspired by Sorolla's Mediterranean seascapes—a crisp white top provides the perfect balance.

Font utilized embroidery in knitwear pieces that felt like a low whisper on the body, punctuated by airy knotted organza on the sleeves and paired with a voluminous white skirt with fullness from the hip. Bold green earrings, a single button and shoes ground the bright white.

Font's sheer, striped fabrications referenced Soo Sunny Park's "Unwoven Light" series of metallic mesh and iridescent Plexiglas installations. It had Font's signature volume but felt like it could also walk a red carpet on just the right girl. Spring is leaning towards an optimistic place, and luckily for us Font is helping usher in this new era of bold femininity.
