New York Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Victoria Beckham Spring 2017

Louche, deconstructed and effortless. Like the look Victoria Beckham took her bow in — a slouchy men’s shirt with rolled sleeves, baggy pants and flat sandals — her spring collection used ease and modernity. From the liquid silk jackets and pants to the gaggle of day-to-evening dresses, the whole thing had a feeling of cool throw-on-and-go.

Crushed velvet may seem like a too-heavy proposition for spring. But here, it was rendered in rich aqua, blue, lavender and white dresses that hit at the knee and had becomingly loosey-goosey proportions. Velvet makes it rich; the ease with which you can slip into these when nothing else in your wardrobe is working makes them every-day utility.

Elsewhere, the artful deconstruction continued, with white blouses with off-kilter buttons, blazers with forgiving cuts and silk pants that must have felt like pajamas to the models. Cross-body sashes and pouches in similar colors added visual interest, but may look extraneous on the average Joe.

White and navy ruled while shots of orange, aqua and lavender softened the palette. Everything was paired with knee-high canvas and leather boots or satin slippers, and every now and then models clutched the straps of covetable leather bags and totes with a minimalist silhouette.

A pretty yet spare floral made it’s way onto Japanese-like tunics and wrap dresses, the best paired with a matching shopper bag. It was the type of dressing that Beckham herself eschews to — relaxed glamour, undeniably cool, totally chic. In a word: effortless. And with the announcement of her beauty partnership with Estee Lauder, Beckham’s march toward a complete lifestyle brand continues.
