New York Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks from Moncler Grenoble FW17

Puffy down-filled coats get the theater experience with a ball at the Hammerstein Ballroom

Moncler thinks outside the box when staging its Grenoble presentations. Last year, the brand’s outdoor runway show in subzero temperatures illustrated the efficacy of the clothes at keeping the body insulated. Two years ago, models emerged from electric platforms in a heart-shaped box as if they were chocolates. This year, Moncler took guests to a winter ball at the iconic Hammerstein Ballroom.

Attendees were ushered into the venue, whose stage had been decorated to resemble a formal ballroom, complete with dinner tables and waiters in white tuxedos. The master of ceremonies, social media star Derek Blasberg, emerged from behind white scrims to mark the start of the “ball” Blasberg announced each of the models by house, such as the “House of the Royal Hunter,” whose garments were hunter-green, and so on. After all of the models had found their rightful positions on stage, the show met a bizarre end as a group of figures in full-length white capes emerged to dance a Viennese waltz as Blasberg proclaimed that they all lived “happily ever after”

Despite the playful bells and whistles Moncler employs to showcase its Grenoble line, the collection was ultimately filled with sleek, stylish clothes for winter weather. Moncler Grenoble operates with small detail-oriented shifts rather than tremendous changes, but there is something sweetly reassuring in knowing that there will always be clever presentations with attractive, well-made cold weather wear.
