Leave it to Zendaya to make a high-fashion statement with her first major red-carpet look of the new year.

Attending a photo-call for HBO Max's second season of Euphoria, the star (dressed by her longtime stylist, Law Roach) posed in an elegant gown from Valentino's spring/summer 1992 collection. The timeless look included thick vertical stripes of black and white, as well as a scalloped neckline. She accessorized minimally, with a pair of glimmery drop earrings.

This isn't the first time Zendaya teamed up with Roach to pull a red-carpet showstopper from the archives. In one of her last glamorous looks of 2021, the actress appeared at a Paris photo-call for Spider-Man: No Way Home in a black dress from Roberto Cavalli's autumn 2000 collection. "Re-edited" by the label's creative director, Fausto Puglisi, the vintage ensemble featured a gold skeletal detail running down the long-sleeved gown's open back. The look was a wink to Marvel fans, who recognized the detail as a reference to Doctor Octopus, the Spider-Man villain known for the metal tentacles protruding from his back.

Last year was a big one for the starlet, sartorially speaking. At the 2021 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards in November, Zendaya was named Fashion Icon of the year.

"This is truly a dream come true for me," she said during her acceptance speech, adding, "[Fashion] has been a creative outlet and kind of an extension of all the reasons why I love acting."
