Demna’s Spring collection for Balenciaga was all about power dressing, regardless of whether you’re bringing that power to the office, your art studio, or the playground. Bold shoulders are still the focus—on mini skirt suits, statement furs, and vinyl trenches. A velvet voluminous gown section with removable crinolines were a crowd favorite. But the most impactful moment in the blue room was what the show notes call “wearable ballroom dresses… to be worn in any setting.” Don’t mind if we do.

@Balenciaga’s SS20 collection was head and shoulder pads above our expectations – pun intended. Against a set made entirely in a colour which we could only describe as the ‘Windows blue screen of death’, models with prosthetic cheekbones strode out in bold angular power suits, Demna Gvasalia’s caricaturized and oversized interpretation of the work uniform. Balloon-like foil ball gowns, velvet jumpsuit-slash-dresses and Hello Kitty bags carried by men with laptops peeking through, came spiralling down the room, which was set up much like a political conference, creating stark contrasts between the mundane and the absurd. Despite the colour scheme, the show left us anything but blue. #balenciagaSS20 #Bazaardaily #pfw #harpersbazaarg #paris #balenciaga #parisfashionweek
