Phoebe Philo is back at the Tennis Club de Paris and giving the people what they want: innovative bags, great outerwear, and trousers good enough to trade your first born for. The story was about layering—dresses over pants, dresses over turtlenecks, jackets over coats over pants—all effortlessly rendered.
There was a welcome utility vibe on khaki anoraks, elevated by an alligator coat underneath. One standout bag wrapped around the wrist, another featuring double straps—all in basic, must-have colors, black, cream, red.
Philo played with high-shine fabrications in silk and satin on dresses and tunics, a new idea that explored luxury in an understated way—a Philo signature. A belted satchel was a standout—Céline acolytes have their new collectible bag.
Only Philo can make a collection that's so largely about coats and pair them with leather sandals, and still have it all make sense. A tan-and-black leather shearling was a heart-stopper, paired with an easy black bag slung insouciantly over the shoulder.
The pièce de résistance has to be a blue leather trench—one of two in the collection. It introduces a new, cool shade without trading on the Philo's signature clean minimalism. It's that bag wrapped around the wrist, the Jesus sandals, the matching turtleneck—the moments that make the look and bring the Céline woman back for more, season after season.
