Rei Kawakubo confronted the fears and destruction crippling the world today for her Comme des Garçons show. Women sported black rubber armours and harnesses, pointy hoods and sculpted headdresses with dresses and separates boasting exquisite workmanship and intricate layering. Exaggerated silhouettes comprising oversized shoulders, wing-like sleeves and bulbous hips also made a statement on the female body. An almost all-black collection was punctured with occasional pops of colour—a seeming representation of light in the midst of darkness.
