Paris Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Maison Margiela Spring/Summer 2019
The experimental fashion house presented a SS19 collection exploring gender-bending and fluidity
Mutiny, Margiela's new fragrance, was the inspiration for this season's array of subversive pieces. John Galliano wants to make something plain: gender-bending, fluidity, and freedom to be whoever one wants to be, whenever they want to be isn't au courant, it's been happening his entire career. Galliano isn't a play-by-the-rules personality, and his clothes aren't either, challenging the expectations of what men and women are "supposed" to wear and staging a mutiny (pun intended) on societal norms. Some of his muses for the fragrance, including Hanne Gaby Odiele, walked the runway in his twists on the boundary-pushing world he knows so well. Less familiar to the house and to Galliano's past work were the undoubtedly 2018 iPhone-holding boots, and models walking down in headphones, no doubt listening to a Galliano-approved soundtrack.
