Nicolas Ghesquière has always added a futuristic touch to his work at Louis Vuitton, yet remained respectful of the House’s heritage. For fall/winter 2018, this meant that while the models stepped onto a spaceship-like runway in sculptural pieces made of leather and neoprene, the debut of the Crown Frame bag ensured a hint of history to the proceedings. Created as a collector’s item, its structured shape is inspired by the brand’s iconic 1930 Maroquin City bag, and its metal frame closure harks back to last season’s Speedy Doctor bag. The circuit board print brings the calfskin bag back into the modern Louis Vuitton narrative, as past and present marry seamlessly in one elegant yet playful, timeless yet innovative masterpiece—the Crown Frame bag is what we’ll bring with us when we can finally travel through space.
