Fashion In Review: Gerald Tan Talks Givenchy Spring/Summer 2017

It was Riccardo Tisci's most pared back collection for the brand yet

While temperatures in Paris continue to head southwards, guests attending Givenchy's show at the Jardin des Plantes were given insulating foils to keep warm in (those really work, no joke). As they sat outdoors around a square-shaped runway looking like moving bundles of aluminium foil, the flashlights were going off behind them at the arrivals of models such as Lily Aldridge and Lara Stone, as well as lovebirds like Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid. Kim Kardashian, of course, made an appearance to see what magic Riccardo Tisci would conjure for Givenchy.

It was a collection that was, perhaps, his most pared-back—and dare we say, commercial—yet: Two-piece suits with utilitarian pockets and unzipped at the waist asserted a different kind of power, while the opening range of sensual slip dresses proved very easy to pull off.

If the clothes lacked the kind of Gothic sensuality that has become a Tisci signature, they more than made up with a graphic bite courtesy of colourful agate, polka dots and stripes. As the models took to the runway for their finale walk, the audience applauding yet another showing by Tisci, no one would have expected that hours later, they'd wake up to headlines of Kim K being robbed of millions in Paris.
