Why Did Bella Hadid Skip The 2023 Met Gala?

The supermodel was nowhere to be found on the carpeted steps.

Bella Hadid's presence was sorely missed at the 2023 Met Gala.

The supermodel skipped fashion's biggest night this year, though she has yet to publicly comment on her absence from the star-studded event.

Whether or not Hadid will explain why she opted not to attend this year's affair, a recent Instagram post may indicate that she may be preoccupied with some more down-to-earth activities. This past weekend, she shared videos of herself horseback riding. She didn't pin the location, but Hadid and her elder sister, Gigi Hadid, have been known to spend plenty of time on their family farm in Pennsylvania.

"Dreaming of this," Hadid captioned the videos.

Hadid is a longtime Met Gala veteran, having frequently topped "best dressed" lists of years past.

At the 2022 event, the Kin Euphorics partner showed up in a sultry black gown courtesy of Riccardo Tisci for Burberry. The eye-popping look consisted of a leather corset, mesh evening gloves, and a sexy thigh high slit and sheer lace tights.

She also attended the 2019 Met Gala, where she perfectly executed the "Camp: Notes on Fashion" theme in a stunning black jewel-encrusted gown from Moschino by Jeremy Scott. The dramatic black dress featured hip cutouts, a long train, and a pair of matching bejeweled opera gloves.

"He is obviously the king of camp," Hadid said of Scott in an interview on the carpet. "He decided to put us all in the looks that fit us best, and I think this one fit me the best. A lot of diamonds, a lot of skin. ... Camp is extravagant, camp is fun, camp is everything fun about fashion that we love. It's such a regal event, the Met Gala, so to be able to come here and really show off our fun side and wear things we wouldn't usually wear, it's just fun."
