There's something joyous about witnessing a KENZO show in action, overflowing with bright, youthful energy. The vision of artistic director Nigo, which has gradually taken the streetwear world by storm since he took the helm in 2021, shines through in vibrant, eye-popping colours throughout this latest collection, plastered across slouchy sweaters and signature sneakers. Always putting elements of Japanese construction and American-style workwear in conversation with one another, Nigo continues honouring founder Kenzo Takada's legacy through an innovative approach to street culture, exploring various eras and drawing on the KENZO archives.
String renditions of The Beatles' biggest hits during the show hailed back to a foundational era for Nigo, who was born in 1970. Yet there was nothing outdated about these clothes, which make vintage rocker fashion feel new. There were visual references to the work of Dame Vivienne Westwood, who greatly influenced Nigo's design ethos and passed away just late last year. And there was no shortage of spunky patterns drawing on cultural influences ranging from UK punk to country couture. Singaporean singer-songwriter Aisyah Aziz marked her first trip to Paris sitting front row at the show along with a slew of global celebrities like Nigerian singer Burna Boy and American singer Tinashe.
