Partly inspired by the wide open spaces in Scotland and the English countryside, which Coco Chanel herself loved dearly, Chanel’s Creation Studio designed a collection evoking an escape to a winter wonderland through natural textures, soft silhouettes and that soothing earthy colour palette that we all find comfort in. The structured utilitarian hints of menswear were also key here, as Mademoiselle Chanel famously broke away from restrictive pieces of the past and emphasised freedom of movement for women.
With Matthieu Blazy in the audience, this collection was a bow to the past and a nod to a new era, as the house’s new creative director is set to present his debut collection in October.
Ahead, our favourite looks.

Like a graceful swan in the garden, the softness of the cardigan perfectly complements the billowy tiered white skirt. While the cardigan is trimmed with beads and pearls for that soft shimmer, feathers and strings of embellishments are strategically placed just at the top of the skirt for the continuity of texture and movement.

Are those actually feathers, or smartly-layered tufts of chiffon on the coat’s sleeves made to look like feathers; or both? Braided trims on the tailored tweed coat create a streamlined effect, and hand-sewn buttons come together for a sophisticated and pristine statement number.
