Stuart Vevers finds the perfect balance between casual and formal in a modern-day New York love story

Coach Fall Winter 2024

"Hey, Upper East Siders...", one can seemingly hear Kirsten Bell's iconic Gossip Girl voiceover as you look at the Coach Fall/Winter 2024 collection that debuted at New York's The James B. Duke House. Models strutted down the charming hallways of the historic mansion dressed in what can be described as "modern-day romantics", where powder hues and oversized taffeta bows are contrasted with hoodies, denim and worn-in leather. Comfortable, wearable, real, and ultimately, familiar—that was the sentiment with every look Stuart Vevers sent down, and that felt right for Coach. While the clothes were kept uncomplicated and the beauty minimal, the playful accessories stole the show. Read on as we dive into our favourite looks.

This trench coat reimagined in powder pink is particularly refreshing. Rid of excess details and with an exaggerated silhouette, it was worn over a black hoodie and with flat biker boots (a running thread throughout the show).

Crisp, clean, and cool: this look stood out with its love-worn touch. And rightfully so, because some of it is made from upcycled materials, a notion Stuart Vevers has been championing successfully for a a while now. An embossed white jacket layered over a sweater dress is accompanied by knick knacks from head-to-toe, namely hair barrettes, a sparkly earring, a postcard and Statue of Liberty charm dangling off her Coach Tabby, and a cap. This young lady's got places to go, and she's well-armoured for it.

It is well-noted that every model who had outerwear on had their hand(s)—one, if not both—tucked firmly into their pockets. A familiar sight in the Big Apple on a winter's day, dashing down the busy streets...it's the city that never sleeps, after all. And this shearling jacket is made to keep you warm and toasty through all that hustle and bustle.

You know who would look perfect in this look? Everyone's number one babygirl, Jacob Elordi. A buttermilk longline cardigan-jacket and easy leather shorts, topped off with a classic New York Yankees cap—a beautiful, softer approach to contemporary masculinity.

Picture this: a debutante throws on a comfy hoodie and collegiate blazer like she planned it all along, as she ducks out of a ball, not before slipping on someone else's well-loved leather boots. While that may be fictional, this combination is something youths would wear today in real life—something fancy fused with something completely everyday, and strutting out like it's the most normal thing in the world. The confidence and ease is what ties it all together.

Ah, the accessories! The knick-knacks, the add-ons, and honestly, the stars of the collection. Like the souvenirs that you can find on every corner of New York City, Coach compiled all the best ones and hung them off bags, ears, and arms; and we love it! There's something so carefree and light-hearted about this season's accessories. They speak of Coach embracing its New York identity, and letting it shine through every single look, right down to the charms.
