Friends of the Central Saint Martins graduate and LVMH Prize semifinalist Dilara Findikoglu will know that she is incredibly passionate about politics. Whether it is through frequent Facebook posts about her views on the political landscape both in the U.K. and her native Turkey, or a visual commentary executed through the narrative of the clothes she designs, the Turkish designer is adept in making powerful statements.
This season is no exception, as Findikoglu has chosen to take us all to church, literally, to formally introduce her Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Otherwise known as her cult: The Seven Sisters of Inherited Sun, sees her followers speak of a time – possibly in the not too distant future – when humanity is lost and the powers that be have forsaken them. Swerving dangerously close to home, this collection is incredibly relatable and a total departure from her Fall/Winter 2017 offerings six months ago.
This season, it is all about throwing caution to the wind and disregarding conventions. "Welcome to the dark side" proposed the designer – whose logo also boasts the Turkish crescent and the star – as her devotees parody believers-alike, rebels, thinkers, politicians, religious leaders, royals and even Divine Providence herself. These immortals and sinners are all dressed in Findikoglu's decadent take on form and proportion – crossing paths in an actual house of God in East London.

Stuffy tweed ensembles made famous by a certain iron-fisted female Prime Minister from the old establishment, are given new afterlife – worn with lubricated latex leggings for added pleasure. A secular bishop sleeve shirt is worn nonchalantly under a garish printed tee. But the finale look of an Elizabethan-era kirtle making way to reveal kinky BDSM undergarments really took the cake.
Sure, with the outlandish styling, these can seem like unsettling propositions at first, but if songbirds like Grimes and FKA twigs, and even Natalia Vodianova – who so famously wore one of the looks from Findikoglu's 2015 graduate collection for her 35th birthday party in Paris, can so willingly embrace it, then so should we all.
But with Jesus overlooking, we are more interested in what he thinks of governing in latex. Hmm.
