Paris Fashion Week: 10 Best Looks From Rochas FW17

Alessandro Dell'Acqua's show for Rochas was the epitome of simplistic sophistation and the ultimate #ladyboss wardrobe

Looking at the snug pale pink T-shirt knit with the tiny crystal R initial over the left breast, matching A-line skirt and super cool oversized glasses, one might think Alessandro Dell'Acqua was imagining a modern-day Laverne and Shirley duo. They're trying to make it in Paris, living on the fringe of Marais, paying too much rent and blowing all their cash on clothes and champagne. Except maybe they're not as funny as L&S, because the clothes Dell'Acqua sent out for Rochas were serious.

Serious, yes, but also ultra refined, polished and a touch gamine — though there was plenty here for the generations. Pencil skirts looked precise in gray suiting but ultra chic when worked in a leather harlequin pattern and teamed with a gray glen plaid jacket. The tailored skirt suits in black and gray, along with pumpkin, pink and pale green day dresses with delicate detailing felt like great options for office-to-off-hours needs but cropped pant suits felt like too much of a stretch.

Dell'Acqua does pretty dresses better than most, and fall was packed with plenty of femininity — pleated chiffon dresses with bows; prim coats with contrast lacing and black lacy frocks. A black floral brocade was worked into three different dresses that could work on many generations — the strict long-sleeve mini for the millennials, the strapless A-line for the young business-owners/moms, and the long-sleeved knee-length shift that looked effortless and ageless.

Fur made a statement in a golden orange and bright red — colours that stood out against the pastel, black and white story. The other big highlight were the knee-high sheer stockings and evening shoes with large crystal R details that were meant to be worn for day or night.

And it's as if the flapper gowns were designed specifically for the Instagram/Snapchat age. Especially a gold swinger that had the front row's slow-motion app in action. These has the fun spirit a modern day Laverne and Shirley duo (let's not forget these girls were young once) would definitely drop a month's pay check on.
