Couture is life, or so they say at Fendi, which took that sentiment to the next level with its latest Spring Summer 2023 collection - a meditation on fashion as a second skin of sorts, and an exploration of couture as the highest level of art, breathing literal life into garments, enabling them to take on some spirit of their own. Far from the dramatic embellishments some have grown to expect from couture collections, fluidity and lightness define designer Kim Jones' latest couture offering at the luxury brand, featuring exquisitely draped garments, lacy leather, and other soft, airy materials.

Couture is not costume in the eyes of Jones, who fashions this collection as a contemporary testament to traditional craftsmanship. Jones pays close attention to the form of his gowns, concentrating primarily on flow, elegance and ease of movement for the wearer. Embracing the softer side of couture makes this collection feel more approachable, as it celebrates the humanity of the wearer rather than the materialism of the clothes, reimagining couture creations as natural and organic rather than inanimate.
