Countless designers from Comme de Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo to Olivier Rousteing for Balmain have dressed pop stars, film stars and even reality TV stars such as the Kardashian-Jenner clan for fashion’s biggest event—the Met Gala. But there’s one designer who hasn’t dressed anyone…until now. For the first time ever, Salvatore Ferragamo’s creative director, Paul Andrew, dressed celebrities such as Solange Knowles, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart for the Met Gala in 2019. And we’ve got an exclusive look at the sketches of the clothes that made its way onto the iconic Met Gala red carpet.
In a short clip on Salvatore Ferragamo’s Instagram, creative director, Paul Andrew talks about his interpretation of camp, which is this year’s Met Gala theme. He explains that “it’s particularly relevant for Ferragamo [because] it’s about an incredible juxtaposition of masculinity and femininity”.

Solange is no stranger to the Met Gala. Year after year, she shows up in highly conceptualised looks that always nails the theme. This year, she wore custom Salvatore Ferragamo, designed by Paul Andrew. It was a blazer-jumpsuit combo paired with thigh-high boots, and both were in python. It’s more contemporary than the looks she’s worn in previous years to the Met Gala, but she’s on theme and looks as stunning as ever.

Lili Reinhart showed up at the Met Gala alongside her Riverdale co-star and real-life boyfriend, Cole Sprouse. She wore a custom Salvatore Ferragamo powder blue silk top and tuxedo shorts. The combination of a voluminous silk top with a train with a pair of tuxedo shorts is definitely camp. And Reinhart also kept the theme going for her hair and makeup with an ethereal watercolour blush effect and an orchid headdress.
