The 6 Shoe Trends to Look Forward To This Summer

The one thing we know for sure is that there is a lot of uncertainty right now. All we can do is look ahead with optimism. And we don't know about you, but shoe trends always help us do just that. So when we get back to the norm of making big plans, perhaps by summer, we're gonna need the footwear to carry them out.

From sporty sneakers for outdoor adventures to strappy heels for weddings and beyond, we're shopping for the shoes that will take us through all the season's commitments—even (and especially!) if one of them is a long-overdue vacation. Keep scrolling for the pairs that have us looking forward to days ahead.

1. Built-In Jewelry

No need to worry about an anklet—this summer's shoes do it for you. We love this removable-hardware option for spicing up a pair of summer heels.

2. "Ugly" Sneaker (Yes, Still)

Still not in love with the "ugly" sneaker trend? Maybe this year will be the time you finally come around, as modern takes feature some unlikely color combinations that are so crazy they just might work. Summer hikes, here you come.

3. The New Flip-Flop

Flip-flops aren't the rubbery throw-ons you're used to anymore. They're with new heels, new fabrications, and new shapes like you've never seen them before—guaranteed.

5. Do Be a Square

We can't get enough of a square toe these days, from flats to mules and everywhere in between. This trend might take some warming up to, but once you're into it, you're into it (speaking from experience).

6. Strap-Happy

Hope you're not easily prone to foot tans, because sandals are getting strap-happy this summer. Easily dressed up or down, these are sure to be in heavy rotation this season, as they can just as easily be worn with a midi dress as a pair of beat-up boyfriend jeans.

7. Can't Believe It's Not Butter

Rather than bright-white or terra-cotta tan, this buttery pale yellow is the new neutral this summer. Sure, we love a bright hue especially in footwear, but it's nice to refresh our arsenal of neutrals too.
