If this year’s Milan Design Week is an indication of anything, it’s that the fashion set has its sights on livening up more than your wardrobe. Here’s a quick look at what you can dress your space with in the coming months.

To welcome people into the Gucci lifestyle, the brand launched a special pop-up concept space that paid tribute to traditional Italian stationery stores during Milan Design Week. Creative Director Alessandro Michele filled its nooks and crannies with whimsical surprises that saw notebooks suspended in flight and adorable miniature mice apartments decked with Gucci furnishings. For Gucci fans, that means having lots of goodies to spruce up their work desk with. In addition to eco-conscious notebooks (the House’s Demetra is made with animal-free raw materials), stationery sets, paperweights and pens in Gucci’s retro-chic prints, there’s a selection of games (dice sets, playing cards, poker and backgammon) to make playtime a stylish affair.

HERMÈS

The cavernous hall of La Pelota Jai Alai was carved up with vibrant monolithic rooms where Hermès unveiled its latest home collection of tableware, furnishings and decorative objects, all “designed to celebrate texture”. Focusing on the materials of its designs, the new range transforms raw, natural materials through the Maison’s unique know-how into objects with precise lines and elegant proportions. Wicker baskets are topped with colour-blocked leather panels. Wooden armchairs are coated with paper microfibres before being hand painted. For the table comes centrepiece plates crafted from copper foil and stencilled enamels that marry colours with myriad textures.

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

For its participation in Milan Design Week, the House of Ferragamo took a somewhat different route. Teaming up with leading Italian designer furniture company Molteni&C for a special installation at its Donna e Uomo boutique on Via Monte Napoleone, Ferragamo lent its touch to iconic designs for a fresh take on the classics. Among others, Gio Ponti’s Otto Pezzi chair was upholstered in an exclusive Gancini-print fabric, while Aldo Rossi’s Carteggio secretaire and Yasuhiko Itoh’s MHC.2 bookcase were presented in a shade of sky blue that is also seen in the Salvatore Ferragamo fall/ winter 2021 collection.

A collaboration with architects Roberto Palomba and Ludovica Serafini, the House’s showcase at its Versace Home boutique on Via Durini showed just what it means to live the Versace way. Melding fashion and luxury living, the new collection of furnishings presents signature patterns and motifs such as the Medusa, Barocco and Trésor de la Mer, as well as the new La Greca pattern, which made its way off the runway and onto jacquards used to dress the furnishings. Tan leather sofas are complemented with jewel-tone chairs for pops of colour, while silks, marble and lush fabrics complete the bold picture.
