TaFF Goes Digital For Its 'Singapore Stories' Competition Finale

The pandemic has wreaked havoc in many aspects of our lives, and the local fashion industry has not been spared — but the show must go on. Organised by the Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFF) and in its second edition, the Singapore Stories design competition will present its finale with a docu-style video, giving us a glimpse into the designers' eight-month long journey as they explore what it means to create a capsule collection that reflects this year's theme: "Reimagining the History and Creating the Future of Fashion in Singapore."

Come October 29 at 8pm, expect "an exciting digital experience beyond the traditional fashion show setting" featuring compelling anecdotes, intricate craftsmanship, runway action and the grand reveal, as well as sound bites from industry experts who have mentored the five finalists: Adelyn Putri from Nude Femme, Carol Chen from Carol Chen Official, Cara Chiang from CYC, Mette Hartman from MARTHA WHO and Nida Tahir Shaheryar from NIDA SHAY.

For their collections, Adelyn Putri was inspired by the strengths and values of iconic female activists, while Carol Chen’s collection merges classic elements of Singapore with the modern-day lion city. Cara Chiang's pieces are centered on her great grandparents’ migration journey from Shanghai to Singapore; Martha Who’s botanical looks are crafted with Asian textile techniques, while Nida Shay’s versatile collection interprets Singapore's cultural diversity.

Singapore Stories is aimed at propelling locally-based designers and their businesses into the international spotlight. The winner of this year's competition will be presented with the Singapore Fashion Award, have their winning look showcased at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), make their runway debut at Paris Fashion Week with Fashion Division, and a garner a retail opportunity with omni-channel platform, SocietyA.
