Saint Laurent’s Spring 2016 runway is like a stylistic lesson in cool-girl antics. There are Kate Moss’ wellies and slip dresses, Courtney Love’s ’90s tiara and rockstar hair, the moto jacket of models-off-duty everywhere.
But it’s that tiara that took center stage on every girl who walked, as a reflection of “a longstanding styling element of Hedi Slimane’s music photography,” according to the brand. So while two decades ago, Love took her tiara to the red carpet in silk dresses, Slimane invites us all to wear a bit of bling with “anything”—le smoking suits, sequin gowns, denim jackets, leopard coats, khaki trenches, rubber boots and strappy stilettos. It’s the democratization of the monarchy of cool. The only question that remains, is who will be brave enough to wear the crown?
