For over two decade, Japanese label sacai (founded by Chitose Abe in 1999) has earned itself a cult following in the fashion tribe. Abe is best known for her concept of hybridisation, such as combining the idea of a jacket and a skirt. After working at at Comme des Garçons as a pattern maker under Rei Kawakubo for eight years as well as with Junya Watanabe’s team, Abe struck out on her own while she was on maternity leave. She first started selling only knitwear she created from the comfort of her own home before staging her first runway show in Paris in 2009. Orders started coming in and she has since left an indelible mark in the world of fashion.

Over the course of the last 20 years or so, Abe has brought her label to great heights, even collaborating with brands such as Nike, A.P.C as well as NASA.

Tomo Koizumi launched his eponymous brand in 2011 when a boutique owner picked up a dress he designed while he was still in university. To gain experience Koizumu started working as a stylist assistant and costume artist before launching his career as a fashion designer.

His first runway show in February 2019 even won the support of fashion designer Marc Jacobs as well as super stylist Katie Grand. The rest, as the say, is history. His fairy tale-like creations also led to a collaboration with Pucci in 2020.

For this sacai X TOMO KOIZUMI partnership, the ware on display features Koizumi’s iconic ruffles on a tote bag, bum bag and leg warmers — all of which are inspired by sacai’s collection. Available in three stunning colourways — green mix; orange mix, and black — the items will be stocked at Nordstrom, Dover Street Market London, Club 21 Singapore, Dover Street Market Beijing, sacai On Lan Street Hong Kong, sacai Sanlitun Beijing, SHANGHAI REEL, as well as sacai SKP-S from June 4.
