It’s no secret that the fashion industry has a major diversity problem—but this season we saw a little glimmer of hope. While 79.4% of the models on the Spring 2016 runways were white, according to BoF, the most popular model to hit the catwalks from New York to Paris was a black model, Lineisy Montero. The 19-year-old hails from the Dominican Republic and walked in 68 shows, Models.com reported, with Montero snagging the coveted opening spots at Derek Lam, Jason Wu, Joseph, Koché and Paco Rabanne. The model, who’s signed with NEXT Models, debuted as a Prada exclusive in February 2015, and later appeared in the brand’s fall ad campaign. Since then, all the major brands, from Gucci to Celine, have fallen for this natural-haired beauty. Hopefully this is a sign of more diverse times to come.
