Hilfiger told WWD that Guram Dvasalia—one half of the Vetements duo—contacted him around six to mine months ago. He describes the collection as “luxury streetwear.”
“We agreed to it because we think it’s such a cool brand and think it will be an incredible collaboration,” he said.
“The fact that a disruptive designer like Demna [Gvasalia] would want to do something with our brand is a tremendous compliment.”
Although the collaboration is just a one-off at this stage, Hilfiger is not ruling out working with the brand again: “Who knows what might happen in the future?”
Vetements is known for adding its subversive tweet to high street brands, from Levi’s and Champion to Carhartt and Dr. Martens.
