The power of a trouser suit isn't anything new - from Lady Gaga's over-sized Marc Jacobs power suit to the Emporio Armani tuxedo that Cara Delevingne wore at Princess Eugenie's wedding, they've long been a popular alternative to dresses for elegant occasion-wear.

But this season, there seems to be one colour in particular that's proving popular with celebrities and influencers: red. Countless fashionable women have been wearing suits in the statement-making hue of late, so take style tips from them on how to wear yours.

Victoria Beckham and Olivia Palermo made a case for a classic silhouette in a daring shade.

Both opted for a wide-leg style in a pillar-box red, but have styled them in different ways. Palermo gave her suit more of an edge, by rolling up the sleeves slightly to show her simple black long-sleeve top. This styling trick makes her outfit look relaxed.

Beckham chose to contrast her suit with a powder blue blouse, giving her ensemble a soft, feminine touch.

Modern Twists

Vanessa Hong, aka the Haute Pursuit, styled her red suit with a more casual approach. For Paris Fashion Week, the style influencer chose a relaxed-fit Lesyanebo blazer, rolled up at the sleeves, with a pair of Nanuska wide-leg trousers. She accessorised with statement Céline sandals and chic cat-eye style sunglasses.

Tifany Hsu, fashion buying director at Matches Fashion, was also spotted during fashion month in a statement red suit. For London Fashion Week, she wore a red Sies Marjan ensemble of matching blazer and trousers with an apron style button-up layer.

Her polkadot Rejina Pyo bag and white boots made her outfit pop and the look was tied together with a simple white T-shirt.

Gal Gadot demonstrated a more subdued take on the trend. Her burgundy offering looked effortlessly chic as the trousers are just subtly flared. She finished the look with simple pointed boots.

If you want to go one step further with this look, then try one-tone dressing like Queen Letizia demonstrates. She accessorised her red suit with a red snakeskin clutch bag and shoes in a similar shade to the rest of her ensemble.
