This weekend, the fashion world lost one of its most beloved figures, Alber Elbaz. His death was confirmed by luxury giant Richemont, which has been working with the designer on AZ Factory, his latest venture.

Following the news of his tragic passing, many brands and friends paid tribute to the late designer on Instagram, remember his wit and spirit.

Kim Kardashian wrote: “Sweet @alberelbaz8 When I heard the news of his passing today my heart broke. My first time to Paris I was surprised with a lunch with Alber and I almost fainted when he walked in. He was the most warm and welcoming. Alber dressed me for my first Vogue cover and gifted me with the cover dress to hold onto that memory forever. Then Alber and Lanvin dressed me to the first Met Ball I was invited to on my own. Our fittings were filled with laughs and hugs! What a sweet soul. I will cherish all of our memories forever. 🕊”

"I will never forget how generous, talented, loving he was,” wrote Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. “He was the first person who made me feel at home in the fashion industry. His favourite word was love and it’s with this word I will always remember him.”

Creative director of Valentino Pierpaolo Piccioli wrote: “Yesterday the world of fashion has lost one of its biggest treasure and I’ve lost a true, honest, special friend. When I moved my first step as a creative director he welcomed me as no other did. He was able to infuse his soul into his work by creating an aesthetic that spoke so loudly of his colourful, sparkling, and intense joy de vivre. I will miss him, but I will find relief by admiring the legacy of his work that will remember to all of us how huge his talent was and how his vision of beauty, his human approach to fashion will always remain peerless. Ciao Alber, keep on inspiring all of us. Thank you for all you have done. It will stay with us.”
