Maison Valentino is celebrating the 90th birthday (May 11) of its founder, Valentino Garavani, with a special exhibition in Voghera, Italy – where he was born – and the launch of a limited-edition hoodie.

Over the last 50 years, the prolific designer has never shied away from his personal take on beauty and his innovative expression of it through his craft. Many of his symbols and motifs are still present today, even though he has handed over the creative reins to creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Starting from May 11 to June 6, 2022, visitors to the Teatro Sociale in Voghera will be treated to an installation that features exclusive creations designed by the Maison from the 1960s to the early 2000s.

Of course, at centre stage, is a selection of Valentino’s most iconic red dresses are on display. The monochromatic show consists of 36 archival dresses that serves as an anthology of styles that embodied the time of their creation. 

These one-of-a-kind pieces are accompanied by drawings, sketches, newspaper clippings, photographs and other documents that showcase the reactions towards the designer’s dresses when they first debuted.

In celebration of Mr Valentino’s fruitful and deep career, a limited-edition hoodie with his famous quote – “I love Beauty, It’s Not My Fault” – is available for sale on the House’s online store. Profits from the sale of the hoodie will be donated to the Fondazione Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti.
