The collection launches online and in-stores on 31 March 2022.
In recent years, the H&M's collaborations with fashion designers have become a hotly anticipated affair—previous partnerships include Simone Rocha, Maison Martin Margiela, Comme des Garçons and Versace, just to name a few. This year, the retailer is working with the incomparable Iris Apfel in honour of her 100th birthday.
When it comes to describing the larger-than-life fashion extraordinaire, the Metropolitan Museum of Art said it best: “An American original in the truest sense, Iris Apfel is one of the most vivacious personalities in the worlds of fashion, textiles, and interior design, and over the past 40 years, she has cultivated a personal style that is both witty and exuberantly idiosyncratic.”

In Apfel’s world, more is more. To her, style and inspiration can come from anywhere and anyone, and doesn’t have to be expensive; it’s all about originality. A typical Apfel outfit consists of a mix of high and low fashion — haute couture paired with flea market finds and other vintage accoutrements. This concept of flamboyant fashion, individuality and bold outfits is also reflected in the Iris Apfel x H&M collection.
The Iris Apfel x H&M collection features an eclectic mix of textures, patterns and cuts. Highlights include: A jacquard suit with peapod embroidery and pear peas, a voluminous, frilled, tulle jacket, a whisper-soft, flouncy tiered skirt and blouse featuring an enchanting iris flower print. All of these and more, rendered in shades of canary yellow, emerald green, violet, vivid turquoise and sunset orange.

The jewellery line is just as impressive. Taking inspiration from Apfel’s love of layering and proclivity for chunky, statement pieces, the accessories feature themes of plants, animals and more.
In a press statement, Apfel said: “I think H&M is fabulous and is an absolute pioneer in its field—which I love! I love doing high style at affordable prices, which H&M has mastered!”
