Roman goddesses met Orientalism in Valentino's Spring 2016 haute couture show yesterday. Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli turned their eye East this season, no doubt inspired by the Metropolitan Museum's exhibit, China: Through the Looking Glass. Beautifully shimmering colours of gold, silver and bronze were melded and reshaped as floaty columns and regal gowns for evening, while motifs of dragons and auspicious symbols were woven throughout the collection on dramatic coats and more statement-making dresses.
