11 Celebrities Who Didn't Attend The 2019 MTV VMAs

The red carpet was missing some of your favorite stars

Fans of music and drama know that the MTV VMAs are the can't-miss event of the year, but some stars didn't make it to this year's ceremony. From rising talent to musical heavy hitters, here are some notable big names who were missing from the 2019 Video Music Awards.

The pop breakout star was missing in action, even though she won awards for PUSH Artist of the Year and Best New Artist. She has a good excuse though: During her video message to the show, she explained that she's in Russia for a performance on her tour.

The "Thank U, Next" singer was up for multiple awards this year—and she won in the Artist of the Year, Best Art Direction, and Song of Summer categories—but she, too, was absent. ELLE pointed out that when Grande's nominations were first announced, the singer said she had shows in London sandwiching the day of the awards ceremony, making her unable to attend.

The internationally renowned K-pop group made history as the first winners of the VMAs' newly established Best K-Pop category. BTS's management company announced earlier this month that the band is taking a hiatus, hence their absence from the ceremony. But they are releasing a docuseries today, Seventeen reported.

The Queen rapper is known to team up with Ariana Grande at the VMAs, whether it's onstage or bonding in the audience, but she was a no-show at this year's ceremony.

She shared a win last night as Megan Thee Stallion won in the Best Power Anthem category with the song, "Hot Girl Summer," which features Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign.

Our meat dress maven missed yesterday's ceremony, even though her Bradley Cooper duet, "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.

They lost to Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus's "Old Town Road," and Shawn Mendes and Camila Cebello's "Señorita," respectively.\

At the VMAs 10 years ago, West infamously interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. Since then, he'd returned to the VMAs stage and even received the Video Vanguard Award in 2015 (presented by Swift herself), but last night, he didn't show.

The rapper was recently in Dayton, Ohio, to perform his Sunday Service in honor of victims and survivors from the August 4 mass shooting. It's possible the show caused him to stay put rather than head to New Jersey for the awards show.

His Lil Pump collaboration, "I Love It," was nominated for Best Art Direction but lost to Ariana Grande's "7 Rings."

Like her husband, Kanye West, Kardashian West was AWOL at last night's show. According to her Instagram Story, she and her kids were also with the rapper for his Sunday Service in Dayton, so she likely stayed behind with him.

The in-demand rapper was also absent last night, but he was nominated for Best Hip Hop (for his Drake collab, "Sicko Mode") and Song of Summer (for his Young Thug and J. Cole collab, "The London").

Like her baby daddy, Travis Scott, the beauty mogul was nowhere to be seen at the VMAs. Unfortunately, viewers didn't get to see another set of meme-worthy reactions from the 22-year-old in the audience. Jenner did watch the ceremony from home though, as she showed on an Instagram Story video.

After being honored with the Vanguard Award in 2018, J.Lo missed this year's ceremony. Although she wasn't up for any awards, she could've reunited withHustlers costars Cardi B and Keke Palmer, who were presenters for last night's show.
