Driving Force: Lamborghini Does Life In The Fast Lane

A need for speed. A passion for perfection. The thrill of the chase. Life in the fast lane gets even better in a cutting-edge Lamborghini

It makes sense that Ferruccio Lamborghini chose a gold raging bull as his company’s emblem; it equates well to the speed, ferocity and power that’s contained in the majestic package that is a Lamborghini. When the visionary magnate set himself the challenge of building a sports car to rival established grand touring (GT) models, many doubted him. His eventual triumph was made all the sweeter for it.

Founded in 1963, Lamborghini launched his first car a year later after the presentation of the prototype at the prestigious Turin Auto Show. The first Lamborghini 350 GT flaunted a 12-cylinder engine, sophisticated curves and Pirelli Cinturato HS (high speed) tyres. Reaching 254 kilometres per hour, the 350 GT pushed the limits of speed from the very start.

It is precisely this combination of boundary-breaking engineering and cutting-edge design that led to Lamborghini’s meteoric rise in the ’60s, and its dominance in the super sports car sector ever since. The company has continued to innovate, constantly seeking out the perfect balance of speed and style, as exemplified by its very first 350 GT, the Countach—the brand’s first car with scissor doors that opened vertically—and the Gallardo, the bestselling model that has had starring roles in movies like Fast & Furious 6 and Mission: Impossible III. The Gallardo evolved into the Huracán, which redefined the automotive world with its aerodynamic performance and patented ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management) technology in 2014, where every part is recalibrated to meet the driver’s needs.

Speaking about the brand, Andrea Baldi, Head of Asia-Pacific Automobili Lamborghini, said, “The Huracán is the latest chapter in Lamborghini’s success story. The car embodies Lamborghini’s commitment to visionary, cutting-edge driver technology. The range, which includes the 610-4, Spyder, 580-2, and special edition Avio, was designed with pure performance and innovation in mind.

“Its predecessor, the Gallardo, is the best-selling model in Lamborghini history, so we’ve known from day one that the Huracán had big boots to fill. Since its debut, it has had huge success across the globe, which is a testament to its true Lamborghini nature.”

Fusing incredible performance with unrivalled design, the Huracán doesn’t just thrill drivers, but also passers-by with its naturally aspirated V10 Italian engine roaring a sweet tune to any supercar connoisseur’s ears. “At Lamborghini, we are continuously innovating and building cars that push the limits of performance, design and speed. The Huracán does just this. The market has come to know us for this, which is why they turn to us and our cars for the ultimate driving experience.”

This success has been achieved thanks to Lamborghini investing more than 20 percent of its yearly turnover into research and development, compared to most other car manufacturers, who typically allocate only three to five percent. This allows Lamborghini to truly explore and invest in its cutting-edge, pure and visionary philosophies. Mr Baldi added, “A Lamborghini isn’t just the car that you drive from point A to point B, it’s an instantly recognisable brand you drive to experience. It’s like nothing else on the road.”

A great sports car is much more than just the sum of its perfectly engineered parts; it is the coming together of beauty, performance and spirit. And anyone who’s ever had the pleasure of being behind the wheel of a Lamborghini knows there is no escaping the intoxicating charm of the raging bull. Lamborghini has always meant to be the most desirable sports car ever, as per Ferruccio’s vision—with speed and colour driving Automobili Lamborghini since 1963. It is this exact spirit that propels the upcoming third model line: The SUV Urus.

Thanks to the SUV Urus, Automobili Lamborghini is staying true to its pure iconic italian DNA, once again introducing cutting-edge automotive solutions, visionary design, and technical avant-garde to the market.
