This week, several senior members of the royal family joined other horse racing enthusiasts in Ascot, England for the 2021 Royal Ascot races. Among the royals who attended on multiple days were Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne, Zara and Mike Tindall, and Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Royal fans were also delighted on Day Five of the event when Queen Elizabeth II herself put in an appearance. Royal Ascot is one of the Queen’s favorite events of the year and she missed it last year for the first time in 68 years because of the coronavirus pandemic, which necessitated that the race be held without spectators. This year’s event was held at limited capacity with attendees required to “provide consent and contract tracing information, provide a free negative COVID-19 rapid lateral flow test on arrival and complete two COVID-19 PCR tests (one on the day of attendance and another five days later),” according to People.
