After a recent trip to Berlin to celebrate the launch of Thomas Sabo's fall/winter 2016 collection, it's hard not to share the highlights of the German capital with its good blend of old and new. If you've got 24 hours in this fascinating city, here are our recommendations!

11am: Take a tour of the city in a vintage VW Kombi

Soak up the sun and get a quick history lesson of Berlin while riding in a vintage VW Kombi. You'll be sure to turn heads while you drive by the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building, Tiergarten, Holocaust Memorial, Bellevue Palace, Siegessäule Victory Column and Checkpoint Charlie.

1pm: Have a lunch in the courtyard at Pauly Saal

Located in a former School for Jewish Girls, Naomi Campell and Brad Pitt are just some of the stars that have been seen at the one Michelin star restaurant which serves up German-Austrian cuisine.

3pm: Buy some books and magazines from Do You Read Me? for some inflight entertainment

Since opening in 2008, Do You Read Me has also organised lectures, exhibitions and talks. The idea was to bring readers and publishers together and create a meeting place for everyone interested in the different aspects of print.

4pm: Take a short stroll over to Museum Island

The Museum Island was a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique ensemble of buildings and cultural artifacts. The opening of the Altes Museum in 1830 made historically significant collections and art accessible to the general public for the first time. Over the next century, four other museums were added to the island, leading to its being dubbed “Museum Island” from the late 1870s.

6pm: Walk along the Berlin Wall

Once 160km long, only a few sections of the Berlin Wall still stand now. For some art appreciation, go to the East Side Gallery which is 1.3km long, along Mühlenstraße in former East Berlin and is the world's largest open-air mural collection. Damaged by vandalism and weather conditions, the paintings were restored in 2009 by the same artists who originally created the works after the Fall of the Wall.

8pm: Experience the taste of fresh local and regional produce at Nobelhart & Schmutzig

Bookings are essential at this blink-and-you'll-miss-it one Michelin star restaurant. In the Michelin Guide 2016, Michelin reviewers said: "The cuisine also has its own particular style, consciously eschewing any hint of luxury or chichi. The powerful and creative food is made using predominantly regional Brandenburg produce. All in all, it is a real pleasure to eat here."

10pm: Get a bird's eye view of the city at Bar 203

The TV Tower is the tallest structure in Germany and one of the most iconic buildings Berlin.

Midnight: Have a good night's rest at Hotel de Rome

The Hotel de Rome is in a grand 1880s building with the balconies of suites overlooking the historic Bebelplatz. Formerly a bank, the spa is located downstairs where the bank vaults used to be.

10am: Discover new fashion labels at Bikini Berlin

The world’s first concept shopping mall houses carefully curated boutiques and a unique concept of modular pop-up boxes for upcoming brands and designers to rent. Personal favourites include: Odeeh, AM+/Aspesi and Pop Up Fashion Berlin. On the ground floor, take a quick break with some organic juice from Funk You and see the monkeys at the Berlin Zoo.

11am: Do some luxury shopping at KaDeWe before you jet off

Berlin's most famous department store is KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens) which has a total retail space of 60,000 sqm, about the size of nine football fields. Cartier, Chanel, Dior, Fendi, you name it, KaDeWe has it.
