Celebrity red carpets are fashion’s gladiatorial arena: the reputations of both star and designer can be made overnight (though financial success for the latter does not necessarily follow), and a good match with a key brand could be a stepping stone to lucrative endorsements, allowing actresses to choose meatier, less blockbuster-y fare. With the enticement of creative freedom at stake, it’s no wonder that every actress is keen to step up her red carpet game.
With fashion week barely over, at least five major actresses have already been spotted in spring 2017 runway looks, with Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters scoring a triple PR coup in Elle Fanning (a longtime champion), Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone. Cate Blanchett channeled Dynasty in the best possible way, wearing Gucci’s dramatic color-blocked gown, and Michelle Williams brought alternative glamour to the BFI London Film Festival in a strapless Louis Vuitton number.
